about Joy Writing from friends and relatives
Kenn Amdahl
From Eric Boss:
Sir:
I am in receipt of your publication. It is good. Really, really good. You can use that, if you like. All seriousness aside, and while I have not read the whole damn thing, I like it, and I think others will, too. It's classic Amdahl.
It makes sense for you to do this, since you have so obviously always enjoyed writing and the enjoyment oozes from your pages like molasses - or maybe honey - or, I don't know, strawberry jam, whatever. Maybe oozes isn't right. Maybe "springs skyward" or "rises, comet-like" or "erupts turgidly". You're the writer, not me.
You may have noticed, over the years, with your penetrating abilities of insight, that I love to use words that make people think I'm a click off normal, which puts me roughly in the zone of writers. I harbor little talent, however, just a love of the word. For me, your attitude towards writing makes cardinal sense. Write the words, sound them, think about them, give them pop quizzes for content and application, slather them on - you can always recycle them later for use elsewhere. No points will be given or taken away for using too many, too few, the wrong ones or the most profound ones. Not now, anyway. Later. Just do it.
Well done, old son.

From Rick Young:
Hey Kenn,
Quick note. First, Thank You for the autographed copy of your new book. I can not have too many titles autographed by authors who I admire and yours are in that group!
I grabbed "Joy" on my way to the airport yesterday and have almost finished it. Not only is it enjoyable, but you are giving me some much needed advise to kick start my writing! Cool!!!!
Hope all is well with you and your family. I have had major meltdown on my personal computer, and I can't find Joey's email. Seth Rogers or something. If you could forward that to me it would be great! The address for his website was also blown away so send that too if you could.
Again, Thanks for the book!! (REALLY!) My friends and customers are quite impressed that my cousin not only OWNS his own Publishing House, but has multiple books to his credit as well!
Later Kenn!

The book covers language issues in writing, basic techniques and provides ample tips on how to improve writing. It is one of the more fun writing tomes I have read. Kenn uses wit and example to make his point without beating readers over the head.
Here's an example of how he addresses the common writing problem of the overuse of modifiers. "Modifiers can make fine jewelry for your sentences, but don't let your manuscript leave the house dressed like a tramp."
Joy Writing is worth a read as a skill brush up for writers before they send a manuscript out.
