Mountain Book provides Clearwater and several other small publishers with Electronic Data Interchange ordering and invoicing capability. Mountain sells to the 3000 bookstores in the pubnet.org network run by Bowker. It offers a favorable discount to bookstores on non returnable sales. Most college bookstores belong to this network, as do most Christian stores. Kenn Amdahl formed Mountain in 2005 to facilitate EDI ordering, the lack of which has put small publishers at a disadvantage in many markets. Mountain will not replace other traditional wholesalers, but may enable some stores and publishers to connect that would otherwise be unable to do so.
Ingram is the largest book wholesaler in North America. Most bookstores have an account with Ingram. Therefore, if you want one of our titles, and your favorite store doesn't carry it, simply insist that they get some immediately from Ingram. You must be firm. Demand our books! Remember, you're trying to help your local bookstore. They will thank you some day.

Baker and Taylor
We used to sell to Baker and Taylor, they were always one of our favorite wholesalers, but when they stopped paying us, we stopped sending them books. They were owned by the Carlyle Group, (featured unflatteringly in Fahrenheit 911 by Michael Moore), then they sold to a different massive company, moved accounting from Chicago to North Carolina, and stopped paying their bills. We'd love to work with them again once they get things organized again but we've talked to nearly two dozen people there and no one seems able to fix things.

It's possible, given the right-wing conservative bent of the Carlyle Group, that we hurt their feelings when we wrote an article after the presidential election in 2004 explaining "Why Liberals Are Sad." We never published the article, but sent it to a few of our friends via email. Someone sent it to someone else, you know how email goes, and pretty soon I discovered it was on several other websites. It was not meant to be critical of George Bush's supporters, but rather just to try to explain why liberals and conservatives seem unable to communicate. It's like they're speaking such different languages neither group can hear the other. But, being somewhat more liberal than the current administration, it apparently came out sounding angry and mean, for which I am sorry. As long as people are reading it on other websites, I may as well include it on this as well and at least get credit for the hits. The truth is, most of my best friends are much more conservative than I am, and I love them all. Honest I do. If you're listening (and you know who you are) please don't send me to a secret prison.
At any rate, every so often someone calls from Baker and Taylor saying they have orders for our titles and want to know availabilty and pricing. I tell them the story, they all say they will get it fixed, and I never hear from them again. Not that I'm paranoid or anything, but geez Louise. On the other hand, how many authors do you know that got a scorching review from the CIA of a silly book about electricity?
