Blogs

Blogs of special interest to writers:

Author Advance:  a sort of social network site for writers and folks who are interested in writers.

Author Planet:  blog by my buddy Jody Rein, a literary agent. She’s an industry insider and keeps current. Pretty sure it’s her turn to buy lunch.

Biting Edge: If it bleeds and laughs, it leads. Mario Acevedo and Jean Stein preside.

BOOC News Events in the Colorado book community are posted here.

Mike Braff  Sci/fi editor at Del Rey, and others

Chiseled in Rock Blog about writing by several Colorado authors associated with Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers.

Christiana Miller’s website:  A writer who spends a heck of a lot more time than I do compiling links to valuable writing and publishing resources. It would be mean for me to swipe all her work, so I’ll just direct you to her list of many, many resources for writing and publishing on her blog.

I’m Just Sayin by Becky Clark. Wisdom and wit from Beckyland

Jenny Bent  Literary agency

Kristen Nelson  Denver literary agent

Marcella Smith Associates:  website not a blog. Marcella was a senior executive at Barnes and Noble for many years, which is how we became acquainted. Now she’s a well-connected literary agent and consultant. Pretty sure it’s my turn to buy lunch.

The Red Pen Editor Blog about editing and virtual assistants and independent publishing by Karen Reddick. We usually split the cost of lunch.

Nathan Bransford’s blog;  writer, former literary agent, who unfortunately roots for the incorrect NFL team.

Publishers Marketplace  not a blog, but a useful website for investigating editors, agents and publishers.

Preditors and Editors:  helpful for checking out editors before you submit material to them

Shelf Awareness  This is a free daily newsletter about the book industry aimed primarily at independent bookstores, but available to anyone. Not a “blog” but a website with info on the newsletter.

Writers in the Storm:  Several writers take turns blogging, mostly about writing

Writer Unboxed:  several authors and agents take turns writing about fiction.

Blogs that are NOT about writing

Singing Meditation Blog about the practice of singing meditation by Liz Hill and Ruthie Rosaurer, both friends and interesting people.

The Artful Amoeba Jennifer Frazer writes about biological stuff in a way even I can understand. We’ve only met briefly, but I enjoy her writing.

Club Galahad Dom Testa’s Big Brain Club, lots of  interesting scientific information especially aimed at kids who are so cool they aren’t afraid to be smart. We’ll arm wrestle over the lunch bill.

Hytyme Equine Rescue I like the writer, I’ve read other stuff she’s written,I’ve visited her horses. Worthy task, saving horses from a cruel fate.

Scientific American blogs.  Science is interesting, darn it, and these bloggers are all pretty good. One way to find out what’s going on this week.
